The room count has two columns. “Whiteboard” holds official numbers on the Housing whiteboard and “Bwog Count” will be our estimate based on exit polls.
To watch our live updates on your mobile device, go to coveritlive.com/mobile and search for “Bwog”. To see the spreadsheet on a mobile device, head to bit.ly/bwoghousing2010-3.
See yesterday’s Suite Selection coverage here. Good luck!

@Question Is that obscenely big first-floor River double taken yet?
@Eliza Nah nah, come and get it!
@Eliza Taken now!
@barnard??? why aren’t you guys covering Barnard housing?? Isn’t barnard a part of the housing selection process for Columbia too?? Can you explain this Eliza?
@Eliza Hello hello! Basically, we’ve chosen not to cover Barnard housing in the past in this minute-by-minute way because Barnard Housing makes it much easier and much clearer for you to pick a room. They update their site pretty frequently and generally the process is much less stressful and more streamlined than the insanity that is this suite selection.
That said, we see there’s demand for updates here, and we’re getting in touch with Barnard Housing officials now to check in. In the meantime, check this for a list of available rooms: http://roomselection.barnardreslife.org/available/, and do update us with any other specific questions before we get you a better update on that.
Truth: it may take us a little longer than we’d like, because we have a pretty tiny staff doing all this stuff, but we hear ya and we’ll be in touch soon.
@Eliza Also, to clarify, Barnard does NOT pick in the suite selection process we’re covering now!
@Eliza Also-also dont forget the changes for room selection 2010, outlined here: http://bwog.net/2010/03/16/barnard-housing-its-imminent. There should be a bunch of helpful links, and follow those links for much more on the process in general.
@Anonymous also, spec’s site is covering barnard housing
@Eliza They are indeed, and we defer to them for the time being. Do check back for updates more succinct than a minute-by-minute blog here, though!
@Eliza I swallow my words! Barnard’s housing website provides a faster update than ANY blog can, because as soon as rooms are picked and entered into the Barnard Housing System, they appear immediately on the site I linked above! The ONLY thing Barnard students will need to do to check the number of available rooms is refresh that page as often as they like– there’s nothing possibly more current than that page! Posting other details in about 45 minutes, after this batch of housing is done.
@Anonymous Two more doubles from the new brownstone picked, two pairs taking up the whole 3rd floor for themselves. 7G Woodbridge also picked.

There are only two rooms on every floor in the new brownstone. Hence, it’s impossible to have three groups select rooms on the fourth floor, kids. Please check again.
@Eliza Yes, we updated immediately to indicate that they were taken on the 3rd floor, not the 4th floor. The group was confused- it can get hectic in that cage! So that’s one double gone on the 4th floor and both doubles gone on the 3rd since lunch. Check the BwogCount for that update.
@Anonymous how’s it looking for barnard spaces?
@Eliza Housing doesn’t have a word on that yet, but we’ll let you know when they do.
@Anonymous will furnald doubles be available for a blind double
@Eliza Blind doubles are only picked in general selection, so it will depend on how many doubles are left after suite selection/how housing re-assesses the Furnald double situation after suite selection taking into account space for the Class of 2014. Stay tuned! We’re also hanging out in John Jay Lounge all day errday livebwogging, answering questions, and dancing, so feel free to drop by and look for someone with a Bwog badge on.
@Anonymous I went into a blind double last year during suite selection…
@Anonymous I think they made an exception for you, lucky lucky
@Housing Master I can’t believe no one is taking the Woodbridge G line, they’re definitely some of the best rooms in the building. Highest end of the low demand. For sure.
@Anonymous What? No live-blogging love for Barnard? The Spec is live-blogging at Barnard…
@Eliza Check the most recent post about Barnard housing!
@hotcakes I believe hotcakes are pancakes.
@33 rooms in Furnald? Why do you guys have 33 doubles being available in Furnald? Last year only 7 were available to sophomores! I know that the Bwog Count column is unofficial, but you might as well as have a reasonable estimate there
@just sayin it seems to me bwog’s still great for procrastinating sometimes but when it comes to things that actually matter (like housing) you need an actual source of info, the new spectator site/specblog thingy is where its’ at.
@Eliza Sorry bout that! Just double-checked the answer with housing. There are 28 doubles in Furnald. That’s because a bunch of rooms were added on the first floor, and those rooms are doubles. It’s possible that a few doubles were also added to the second floor. Updating the chart now!
@Furnald has no singles available for rising sophs this year??
@Eliza Housing’s double-checking that now.
@Eliza Confirmed number of doubles on the chart (28), for class of 2014 and 2013. There are 40-45 beds available for rising sophomores. Check the liveblog for updates.
@wait... If there are 28 doubles, doesn’t that mean that there at least 56 beds?
@Eliza Housing’s assumption is that most 2013ers will not pick into Furnald doubles, opting instead for singles. The 28-double count is for everyone, i.e 2013ers can pick into the Furnald doubles, but there will almost definitely be many of those doubles left over for the Class of 2014 to be placed into. Bottom line: there are no more than 45 spaces, period, for rising sophomores to choose into in Furnald. More updates on Furnald to come as sophomore housing draws nearer– the juniors are only beginning. That’s the most recent official word from housing on Furnald, though.
