Senior Wisdom: AJ Pascua

Written by

Name, school: AJ Pascua, CC

Claim to fame: CC 2010 Class President (sophomore and junior years) and author of the barely tolerated class email for two years.

Where are you going? Google (Mountain View, California)

Three things you learned at Columbia?

  1. If you live in Claremont and grocery shop at Westside, (shamelessly) use the shuttle service.
  2. A cup of six grapes and a few impossibly small cubes of cheese costs 4+ bucks at Lerner. Buy elsewhere.
  3. The Diana Center is the best place to study (natural light, wifi, cheap/good food, generally unpopulated).

Justify your existence in 30 words or fewer: I was interviewed by NPR when Ahmadinejad came to campus. Luckily, I was sober.

Any war stories from the War on Fun? Yes. Having forgotten my shampoo in my John Jay dorm room, I got out of the shower to get it. Along the way, I bumped into my fire-breathing RA who complained about the “nauseating top 40 music blaring from the bathroom.” I told her I would “find the idiot who brought his ipod speakers to the bathroom.” It was me, and I resisted her war on my fun.

Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese? I’ve never really liked cheese, not even with crackers and wine…

Any advice for the Class of 2014?

  1. Push yourself to go outside of your comfort zone. I studied abroad in Beijing in 2008 and had the biggest culture shock of a lifetime. I ended up making some of my closest friends in college there while developing an interest in a culture and language I now love studying.
  2. When planning your class schedule for the approaching semester, ask your favorite professors for their input, especially the professors in the department of your prospective major. They know what their department has to offer (lectures, seminars, even other professors) and can help guide you along the way.
  3. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. This goes for your professors, administrators, and classmates. Often times people enjoy bringing out the best in others. All you have to do is ask. I have professors, administrators, and peers to thank for a lot of the opportunities I’ve found in college.

Any regrets? I once “fell asleep” in the Tom’s bathroom. I found out the next day over the phone. It was not my finest moment.

  3. Harmony Hunter

    fuck everybody

    • Dave

I may be leaving on May 18th, but I will see Harmony Hunter in the frown of every child; in every rainy day; in every terrible first kiss. Your stench will linger in my nostrils like limburger-scented oral sex, and the sight of your comments will forever haunt my dreams.

That being said, I will miss you. Whoever you are, godspeed, and I hope that someday, someone is able to find that fucking dorm. Probably in Narnia or some shit like that. Thanks for the memories. xoxoxoXXX

AJ, thank you for making my years here amazing. Anyone who has the distinct pleasure of knowing you even half as much as me would recognize what a truly good person you are, and how great it is to have a friend like you.

I'm so lucky to have met you. Love you AJ!

    I love this man.

  8. this

guy's insincereity is what made him lose the CC2010 president job to cliff after 2 years on the job. i'm defiently not alone in my opinion tht this guys is one of the fakest people around in this school of full of posers. the only people who thinks AJ is 'wonderful' (and who are probably the people posting in the comments above) are the little asian girls who follow him around everywhere.

    • I haven't really

seen AJ since living on the same floor freshman year (making the disinclination towards cheese and wine understandable...) But even from then he seemed like a genuinely sweet and loving person. That kind of sincere warmth towards people is pretty rare here, perhaps that's what comes across as fake. Or he just had his gameplan going from day one, I don't know.

  9. wow

he's going to work for google? not bad

i only met AJ at the beginning of this year, but ive been lucky enough to hang out with him since then and theres not an ounce of me that thinks hes anything but AWESOME. the epitome of friendly and genuine to the bone. and au contraire to what was suggested above, im tall/have blonde hair/am irish sooo its not just the asian ladies who think AJ is great!

  13. AJ is a tool

    The definition of it.

  14. aj = pretentious ass

i hope the people he's nice to realize that, when you aren't looking, he's talking shit about you. always. just be lucky that you don't know WHAT he's saying behind your back. ignorance is bliss and all~
