USenate Task Force on Military Engagement Releases Student Survey

The University Senate released an online survey this evening aimed to gauge student opinion on the subject of military presence at Columbia. There are general questions about the military’s relationship with Columbia, and there is a question that directly asks: I ______ of a return of ROTC to Columbia’s campuses.

You can access the survey via their web page and log in with your UNI (however, they stress the survey is anonymous). It starts tonight at 8pm and will be open until next Thursday, February 24 at 11:59pm.

  • how many of the bwog personals says:

    @how many of the bwog personals were successful?

  • does the says:

    @does the survey not work for anyone else?

    1. Worked for me says:

      @Worked for me In Chrome.

    2. Anonymous says:

      @Anonymous Didn’t work for me in Chrome.

      1. that's cuz says:

        @that's cuz Chrome hates you.

  • Anonymous says:

    @Anonymous cool!

  • Safari says:

    @Safari All the way mother fuckers!

    1. fire fox! says:

      @fire fox! Fire FOXXXXXX

  • So says:

    @So was the question about would it be better for the military to have more columbia students as officers a bit unfair? It would probably be better if columbia students had more positions of power in any organization no matter how screwed up it is. But that shouldn’t really have any bearing on whether or not that organization gets the opportunity to have a program in this school

    1. wow says:

      @wow A question is not “unfair.”

      You don’t like it because if you answered it honestly, that would be construed as support for the ROTC.

      1. ... says:

        @... which makes it unfair

        1. ... says:

          @... or biased. whichever term you want to use

    2. Eh says:

      @Eh I don’t think that the question is unfair. I just can’t get behind the argument that feeding Columbia graduates into the armed services is going to help enact any sort of real, positive change in workings of the US military. Second Lieutenant Schermerhorn is going to find out very quickly just how much the Air Force cares about his social and political worldviews, however enlightened they may be after nine months of CC.

    3. anon says:

      @anon Maybe it is fair in light of the fact that, maybe Columbia students have some duty toward society as a whole.

  • USMC says:

    @USMC we’re here . . . with beer . . . get used to it.

  • Anonymous says:

    @Anonymous 2lt Schermerhorn will be the most important member of the military as he will be the one constantly engaging (as in talking not shooting) with local populations anywhere that he may go during his career. Possibilities include over 150 countries that we are NOT at war with but require still our aid. (Haiti anyone?)

    1. soldiers too says:

      @soldiers too Young lieutenants and captains have great influence on and responsibility for the lives of their soldiers and, by extension, their families.

  • Stephen says:

    @Stephen I thought the survey was fine. I wish it had included a text box at the end where we could have added short comments. I know they have the email address for that purpose but it would have been nice to be able to directly clarify some of our answers right in the survey.

  • 123 says:

    @123 test

  • YO says:

  • Anonymous says:

    @Anonymous I agree. It’s a loaded question.

    1. Anonymous says:

      @Anonymous supposed to be a response to “So” above

  • yeah says:

    @yeah including to keep the rotc program off campus.

    white man’s burden gotta change the military from the outside blah blah blah.

  • idk says:

    @idk what you people think of yourselves. you think YOU can change the military? you no good middle class brats. i hope the rotc is on your campus so you can claim to be serving the community without actually doing it.

    1. I hope says:

      @I hope you get face fucked to death. Not everyone here is as privileged as you believe.

  • Michael Segal says:

    @Michael Segal Could someone post the actual text of the questions so alumni and others could know exactly what is being asked?

    1. Claire says:

      @Claire Sure, they’re all up now.

  • anon says:

    @anon when do the results come out?

  • St. Pauls boy says:

    @St. Pauls boy Claire is so cool.

  • Anonymous says:

    @Anonymous Question 2 is so loaded! Can’t answer it. I only approve of ROTC off-campus.

  • grad student says:

    @grad student Can anybody explain why there is no blank for GSAS on the final question? Was there a policy decision made to exclude us from this survey?
