Location: Bottom of 115th street, at 431 Riverside Drive

  • Nearby dorms: Schapiro
  • Stores and restaurants: MoWi, M2M, Vine, Ollie’s, Pinnacle

Cost:

  • $8,324 (same as Watt and Hogan)
Amenities:
  • Bathrooms: Each double has its very own!
  • AC/Heating: No A/C, yes heat. Sometimes the heat is spotty which you can only really feel if you have windows that face the street, particularly Riverside. They’re usually really quick about responding to maintenance requests for that sort of thing, or anything really.
  • Kitchen/Lounge: Kitchen in every double, layouts vary in kitchen size/location. Lounges tend to be small but functional. There is technically also a lounge in the basement next to the satellite gym, but residents don’t really use it.
  • Laundry: In the basement, almost always lots of available washers and dryers.
  • Computers/Printers: One printer next to the security desk.
  • Gym: Two treadmills and two arctrainers in the basement.
  • Intra-transportation: Slow elevators with swinging door. Old school!
  • Wi-Fi:  Yup. Works 99% of the time too.
  • Hardwood/Carpet: Carpet.

Room variety:

  • All two-person suites. Each line is very different in terms of layout.
  • Factors to consider when choosing a line: do you have to walk through the bedroom to get to the bathroom (disturbing your sleeping roommate)? How big is the kitchen counter space? Is there natural light (woodbridge is kind of dark, especially if you’re on the shaft)? Can you/do you want to share the bedroom or will one person be in the ‘living room’?
  • Housing ranks the rooms by “demand:” H, K, C are high demand; D, G, I are low demand; all others are medium demand.

Numbers:

  • Woodbridge generally gets gobbled up by seniors, with some of the low-demand rooms going to juniors.
  • There are a lot of 2-person senior groups this year, don’t necessarily count on the low-demand cutoff of 20/1500 or so.

Bwog recommendation:

  • A very good option for seniors who want to live with someone but couldn’t get into Watt.
  • EC flats are another option, but then you gotta think about location and amenities.
  • Juniors with decent numbers looking at Woodbridge, good luck! Start looking into Watt or dropping down to General.

Resident opinions:

  • “Woodbridge is nice, quiet and generally uneventful since it’s mostly seniors with a few lucky juniors.”
  • “Perks: access to Riverside Park, block away from the Subway entrance, relatively close to South end of campus, full-size fridge in every kitchen, no sharing of bathrooms, closet space, feels like you’re in an apartment situation.”
  • “Pains: the WIND TUNNEL is terrible sometimes walking home. running the last third of a block decreases exposure time and is recommended. As lazy and lame as it sounds, the hill up to campus makes it seem farther away—people don’t come to visit you very often.”
  • “Kinda spotty cell phone reception.”
  • “This is the best place on campus to live. By far. Live here. You’ll be happy. You’ll stay organized. You’ll have plenty of space. You won’t get sucked down the Columbia soul-sucking drain. Riverside drive is pretty. You get real dorm keys.”
  • “One person will end up making the living room into his room, which works fine, and you’ll feel like a real New Yorker living a real life.”
  • “The walk-through room defeats the charm of woodbridge, and you shouldn’t live here if you’re stuck with that option.”
