Tayshana Murphy, a high school senior who happened to be one of the nation’s top-ranked basketball players, was shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday morning in Grant Houses on 123rd Street.
DNA Info reports that police have identified two suspects in the murder, and that Murphy seems to have been the victim of a “long-running feud between Grant Houses and Manhattanville Houses” on 129th Street.
Spectator has a story with reactions from the neighborhood.
Murphy was a senior at Murry Bergtraum High School in Lower Manhattan, where she was nicknamed “Chicken” by her friends.

@Anonymous I walked by Grant Houses on Monday and there was a big memorial service and vigil outside the complex. This is a very sad story.
@bmp Indeed a tragedy – if only gang shootings were all suicide/murders.
