Bwog kinda wants to study abroad in Iceland

It’s Bacchanal weekend. Make up for every terrible thing you’re about to do to your body and mind, and take in one of these mind-altering events (not substances), brought to you by brilliant, witty, and effervescent Arts editor Madysen Luebke.

This Weekend:

  • Columbia’s New Opera Workshops presents the Black Box Opera Festival this Thursday and Friday at 8 pm.  They’ll be featuring both classic opera scenes as well as many pieces running the gamut musical topics of  by student composers.  Tickets are only $5 with CUID, and the show will be in the Glicker-Milstein Theater.
  • CU Players is back with Naufft’s Next Fall.  This play tackles some big issues, so if you want to feed your brain before turning it off for Bacchanal, here’s your chance!  Grab your ticket for $5 with CUID and head over to the Lerner Black Box Thursday, Friday, or Saturday at 8 pm!
  • Columbia School of the Arts is bringing The Blind to the stage this weekend!  What is the show all about, you ask?  Well, here’s a hint: “On an island with an asylum, an old priest has led a group of elderly blind inhabitants on a walk into the forest.”  Does that sound great or what?  Grab your tickets for FREE and see the show in the Schapiro Theatre Friday at 8 pm or 10:30 pm, Saturday at 1 pm or 8 pm, or Sunday at 2 pm.

Thursday:

  • It’s not Bacchanal yet, so get you’d better get off campus while you’re still able!  Columbia students get a discounted ticket price with the code CAAL at (le) poisson rouge this Thursday 6 pm show featuring “the 36 chambers of the mad and melodic Killandra Bea.”
  • If you don’t feel like leaving campus, Miller Theater has you covered as always with a performance of compositions by Australian composers Liz Lim Thursday at 8 pm with tickets for $7 with CUID.
  • If you’re really feeling adventurous, head down to BAM at 8 pm to see the Grammy Award Winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, featuring choreography by Twyla Tharp.  Best part?  We can get in for $10 with CUID to see work by these amazing artists.

Saturday:

  • Feel like post-gaming bacchanal with a swanky Lincoln Center event?  Well lucky for you, Columbia students get tickets to Vocal Colors at Alice Tully Hall for only $25 with CUID!  The show starts at 7 pm, so don’t be late!

Monday:

  • The Center for Palestine Studies has heard of all the events that the Center for Italian studies brings to Columbia students and decided to step up its game!  Monday at 12:30 pm in Knox Hall room 208 you can catch Icelandic-Palestinian poet Mazen Maarouf reading some of his internationally renowned poetry.  And yes, there will be refreshments.
