The College of Dental Medicine, as well as the Columbia University at large, got some sad news last night: Jiwon Lee, dental student, has died. Lee had been missing since April 1st, but her body has been identified in the Hudson river.
Bwog sends its deepest condolences to all those affected; be reminded that CPS and the Office of the University Chaplain exist to help in this difficult time.
Here is the message that was sent today to senior administrators at the College of Dental Medicine:
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
As you may have already heard, authorities have confirmed the death of Jiwon Lee, a fourth year dental student from Novi, Michigan. Campus administrators have been in contact with her family to provide support and assistance during this difficult time. We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Lee family for their terrible loss and ask that you keep them in your thoughts in the days ahead.
Jiwon was a talented student, committed to the care of her patients, and one who enjoyed helping out her classmates. Her passion and energy were infectious. She was nationally recognized as ASDA President and represented the College of Dental Medicine with pride and honor.
When we lose a member of our community, we are all affected by the loss. During this difficult time, we encourage you to rely on one another and CUMC resources. Wellness staff, mental health providers and the Columbia University Chaplain are available to assist.
