Columbia Dining Services announced today that Wilma Jordan, who has cooked us omelettes and brightened John Jay Hall with her eternal smile for 27 years, is retiring at the end of the semester.
Here is the official announcement:
After 27 years of service to the Columbia community, our beloved Wilma Jordan will retire at the end of the Spring 2014 term. Wilma is an icon in the John Jay Dining Hall, providing endless entertainment and delicious omelets to students, faculty, staff, and visitors over the years. While Wilma will be moving on from Columbia, her famous grill station will remain in John Jay.
Columbia Dining team will be honoring Wilma with a special employee celebration on May 14th, but we would love for students to wish her well before her last day in John Jay, May 15th, 2014. Wilma plans to celebrate her accomplishment and kick-off her retirement by taking a cruise.
Bwog would like to thank Wilma for the years of service, food, and warmth she has provided to the Columbia community. All the best now and always, Wilma.
Show her some love in the comments!

@Nigel CC'05 Bless you, Wilma. You are the BEST!!! I’ve never had a better scramble or received a better smile. Retirement, yaaaaaaaaaaasssssssss!!!!
@damn she’s gonna be on my “back in the day” for my senior wisdom
@Carmen Encarnacion Hola Wilman,
It’s me, Carmen, Antonia’s sister…it’s been so long!
Congrats, well deserved. Cruise on and be bless. Enjoy life, you so deserve it. Now, we need to find time to hang out… We still young, girl!
Amor Siempre,
@Andy …Nothing is on the grill!
@CC 2012 Four fried eggs with onions and cheese. I still get that anytime I go to a breakfast place. They all try their best but none can match the love of Wilma’s omelettes. Love you Wilma. God bless.
@Kyle Schmidt Can someone perform a “back of the envelope calculation” of the amount of omlettes she made in her Columbia tenure?
@anon15 From a previous Bwog post:
She is currently single, having divorced her husband. She does not have any children, nor does she wish she had any: “What would I do with kids, with all these that I have here? I’m like Old Mother Hubbard.”
:'( Hopefully in retirement she still gets to interact with kids, she was so nice to me freshman year, and JJ will truly miss her presence.
@CC ' 17 She’ll be Missed!
@Anonymous I can’t believe Wilma is leaving – such a human being. All the best!

My Dear Sister Wilma,
I’m so elated to see you reach your retirement. Think God you realized
it. I don’t know what’s taking your sister so long to retire. However,
may God continue to richly bless you and all that is coming your way.
Expecting,
Leonore Franklin-Smith
@Give her a gift Here’s a tip: She collects menus! Get her a menu from your hometown! She loves them!
@There are zero downvotes on any of the comments as I write this. See, we can be nice.
@love wilma she’s great. nay, fantastic
though, i hope they can get wilma’s grill fired up again during brunch instead of that dinky two pan thing they’ve been doing the last month or two.
@Anonymous Thank you Wilma! Good luck. God bless you.
@CC Parent Thank you so much for being so great to all the students!!!
Enjoy your well deserved retirement.
@Anonymous I hope they don’t ever change the name of Wilma’s Grill! She is such an amazing and truly lovely person. No matter what she is always consistently hard working and beyond friendly. We will all be so sad to see her go!
@damn this woman has been patiently feeding undergrads for longer than most of us have been alive, with equal parts warmth and sarcasm.
we’ll miss you wilma, but you deserve one hell of a retirement.
thanks for everything!
@James Wilma was amazing – always positive and upbeat, and certainly the highlight of JJ!
