Amsterdam & 113th
Protest of the Eric Garner case decision released tonight, focused on Amsterdam and 113th, was met with rapid police action. There have been swarms of news helicopters, emergency vehicles, and cop cars in the area. We began to receive tips just before 11 PM tonight, and will continue to update with photos and video from the scene (full gallery located via jump below video).
Update at 11:53 PM: Action has mostly moved to Harlem area, 125th St. Immediate campus has quieted down. Large Columbia crowd following the protest north.

@Protester Black people are dying. Let’s block off the entrance to a hospital emergency room to make sure that it’s not only black people who are dying.
@thanks, Bwog You catch a lot of flak, but thistime you definitely came through. Having a helicopter basically parked over your building was a new one by me- your Twitter feed at least let us know what was going on right here at the time.

@lolgarner Are people really so desperate to vilify law enforcement they’ll protest anything? It’s not like NYPD beat the crap out of some guy or did anything especially brutal. Being in a choke hold for two seconds won’t kill a normal, remotely healthy person. The guy was a whale who resisted arrest and his body couldn’t handle it. Death by fatassery isn’t the NYPD’s fault.

This isn’t the time. You’re talking bullshit to try to get a rise out of people who know that’s what you’re doing. You’re doing it over the death of an unarmed, unresisting civilian.

@lollookkid “unarmed, unresisting civilian”? Nope. Was a +6ft 350lb man actively resisting arrest by two smaller plain-clothes cops. This isn’t rodney king, this was an asshole who fought the cops and had his body give out in the process. If you want to shame someone then shame FDNY EMS for failing to administer oxygen. Don’t blame the cop who used a head-lock to bring down a giant then immediately let go. Go back to class, kiddies. This isn’t the police-brutality cause that you’re looking for.
