Happening in the World: A Russian Soyuz rocket malfunctioned two minutes after liftoff on a mission to the International Space Station on Thursday. The two-member crew, U.S. astronaut Tyler Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin, were forced to make a parachute landing in their capsule. Fortunately, they landed safely (New York Times).

Happening in the US: In recent months, several FBI employees have been recalled to Washington as the agency investigates allegations regarding parties and interactions with prostitutes. These FBI agents were stationed in various cities all over Asia (Wall Street Journal).

Happening in NYC: On Thursday, ex-con Andros Topping was sentenced 15 years to life. He had murdered his aunt and stuffed her body into a suitcase after she allowed him to stay at her Bronx home for a few days (NY Daily News).
