Grammy-nominated experimental electronic music artist SOPHIE will be headlining Bacchanal next weekend, following the confusing rollout of a publicity stunt by the Bacchanal committee.

All this information was given by the Bacchanal committee last night on their livestream; though they didn’t come out and say who the headliner was, they mentioned that the headliner is trans and Grammy-nominated, and only two artists fit that description; SOPHIE and Teddy Geiger. Given other corroborating information, we feel confident that SOPHIE will be the headliner. The official announcement will be tomorrow, according to the livestream.

SOPHIE adds to this year’s all-womxn Bacchanal lineup that includes rapper Tierra Whack and electropop artist Rina Sawayama. Tickets will go on sale in waves beginning today at 11:30 am and will be available at this link at the following times:

3/30/19- 1,450 tickets at  11:30 a.m.
3/31/19- 1,000 tickets at 8:00 p.m.
4/2/19- 1,000 tickets at 2:30 p.m.
4/3/19- 1,500 tickets at 8:00 a.m. close at noon

Listen to SOPHIE’s Gramy-nominated album OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES here, and we’ll see you at Bacchanal!

The Bacchanal committee declined to respond to multiple emails from Bwog requesting information about the headliner.

Edit 3/30, 12:27 pm: We corrected a statement about trans women Grammy nominees. There are two who are still alive. We apologize for the error.

Edit 3/31, 1:54 pm: Early this afternoon, Bacchanal committee published an Instagram post confirming Bwog’s previous belief that SOPHIE will be this year’s festival headlining performer. As pointed out by the post, this will be Bacchanal’s “first ever all-womxn lineup.” Bacchanal’s full statement is attached below.
