Elections are right around the corner, and no, we’re not talking about the 2020 presidential race!

Despite current changes to Columbia student life, the engine of student government chugs ever onward (though aside from ESC, without open meetings). You might have forgotten without flyers being shoved under your door or aggressive flyering by your friends and loved ones with (campus) political aspirations but student government election season is upon us!

Each school’s individual council—CCSC, ESC, SGA, and GSSC—has made some changes for the process by which members are elected in light of the COVID-19 pandemic forcing everyone off campus (CCSC, for example, will only be conducting elections for the executive board this spring). Our intrepid bureau chiefs will have a post compiling these changes and dates you should know in the near future.

Today, however, I’d like to address all the candidates out there: Bwog does make endorsements for student government elections we’ll consider anyone who is running for a position for any of the four undergraduate schools. However, we can’t consider you if we don’t know you’re running!

If you would like to be considered for an endorsement by Bwog, please email board@bwog.com by 3 pm EST on Sunday, April 19 letting us know who you are, what you’re running for, and your availability to meet with members of Bwog’s editorial staff via Zoom for about 15 minutes. (That meeting would preferably on Sunday evening but we can be somewhat flexible. Thanks, Zoom!) From there, all you have to do is show up to the meeting, tell Bwog’s editors a bit about your platform, and answer any questions our staff might have. After all the meetings are concluded, our staff will decide which candidates we think are best suited to represent our student body in the coming academic year and write a post about who we endorse for each position and why.

If you have any questions about this process, check out last year’s post with our picks for ESC and CCSC candidates or email board@bwog.com and we’d be happy to clarify.

We hope to hear from you soon and best of luck to all the candidates participating in the process!
