A botnet sounds like a baby robot. Not menacing at all.

Happening in the World: Police from the UK, EU, US, and Canada worked together to seize thousands of computers, disrupting one of the most dangerous hacking networks worldwide. The “Emotet” botnet network infected internet-connected devices with malware allowing hackers to control them. These hackers then sold the information to top-level criminal groups engaging in illicit activities such as data theft and extortion (BBC).

Happening in the US: President Joe Biden has signed a series of executive orders addressing climate change, including a new ban on some energy drilling. His administration has prioritized climate change as a national security concern and has directed the pause of oil and gas drilling leases on federal lands and water “to the extent possible” for review. President Biden also announced that he would host an international climate summit on Earth Day in April (CNN).

Happening in NYC: A large billboard scrawled with the phrase “New York is Dead. Don’t Come Back,” has recently sprung up on Sunset Boulevard. The Locker Room NYC, a Brooklyn-based art collective, created the piece in their studio and brought it to Los Angeles to serve as a commentary on those who left the city in droves during the height of the pandemic. The artists sought to instill pride in those who stayed and say that the city is still alive and well (NBC New York).
