Happening in the World: Thailand has just approved an amendment that allows same-sex marriage to its civil code. The amendment changes language in the Civil and Commercial Code from “husband and wife” to “marriage partners.” On December 12, the law will be proposed to Parliament. If approved, it would make Thailand the third country in Asia to legalize gay marriage. (AP)

Happening in the US: The Biden Administration is offering another round of free COVID tests. The program was restarted in September, allowing Americans to order four COVID tests for free from covidtests.gov. Beginning yesterday, households may order another four tests, or eight if they did not make a previous order. Previously, while COVID was declared a public health emergency, private insurers were required to cover up to eight tests. (New York Times)

Happening in NYC: Mayor Eric Adams has cut migrant spending by 20%. According to the city budget director, this is because the city cannot sustain the expenses of asylum seekers and also maintain city services. Now, asylum seekers are not able to spend as much time in shelters, and more specifically, they are required to leave or reapply after 30 days. This comes alongside more budget cuts, as most city agencies are directed to cut their 2025 spending by 5%. (Gothamist)
