The Columbia Women’s Basketball team won 80-57 against Towson this Thursday in Levien Gymnasium. Here are some highlights from someone who has not attended a basketball game in many years.

The Columbia’s Women’s Basketball team played against Towson this Thursday in Levien Gymnasium and won 80-57.  Columbia had a strong lead throughout the game and all the players did an excellent job. Kitty Henderson in particular scored 23 points on 10-12 shooting and had eight assists. Abbey Hsu (16 points, 8 rebounds) and Cecilia Collins (15 points) also made a significant contribution. This game was also the first time Fliss Henderson was part of the starting lineup, and also included Ava Sciolla’s Columbia Debut. The opposing team was led by Kylie Kornegay-Lucas, who I must admit was very incredible to watch on the field and scored 15 points and nine rebounds.

I must admit I am not the most knowledgeable sports fan, but had a great time nonetheless. The crowd created a fun environment and I think that most of the people in Levien Gymnasium had a good experience. Some less sports-y highlights and criticisms I have are:

  1. I LOVED the fun music that would pop up with the players holding the ball on the big screen. It was kind of like the Hunger Games. Personally, I think we could even step this one up. More Hunger Games music, sillier poses, more often.
  2. More onto the Hunger Games vibes—(It may just be on my mind because of the movie this weekend but the prequel is GREAT and everyone should go watch it in theaters. Just saying.) The announcer had a really awesome voice. I think we should go all Caesar Flickerman vibes every time. If you are out there—the people need you. In crazy outfits. With a comically huge microphone. Soon.
  3. Whoever is censoring the lyrics… the people need Pitbull to be heard. The censoring is only half-working anyways. Free him. Please.
  4. BIG FAN OF THE SONG CHOICES! Whoever decided to play Barbie World you are a national hero.
  5. The dance numbers were so awesome. All of the cheerleading team are winners in my heart. Also, the people on the side with the white pom-poms who decided to wear matching white bows—you are all the moment. Understood the assignment and it was so appreciated.
  6. More love for the cheerleading team. Love the pom-pom variety. Someone needs to add a third big screen for the cheerleaders; they are all superstars and have never done anything wrong ever. HUGE fan. Also, someone needs to get Roaree a mini skirt and some pom-poms STAT. Feeling like this alone could double team spirit.
  7. Perhaps a controversial announcement. My heart is torn. Townson cheering for their team from the bench was so awesome. Could feel the love.
  8. I LOVE THE BIG SIGNS WITH THE PLAYS! The fire emoji was so silly. Great job. Keep that up.
  9. Can the panel of judges PLEASE wear funkier hats. I feel like the real game we are losing is the funky hat olympics. This is a crisis that must be dealt with IMMEDIATELY. Someone needs to take one for the team and buy the judges crazy funky hats off of Esty.
  10. Ran into many of the regulars at the audience that were just lesbians. I feel like the American flag on the stadium is just not representative enough of who the crowd is and who the crowd is is lesbians. Someone fix this STAT.

Anyways, that about sums up the game. If you have not yet attended one of the Women’s Basketball team games, this is your sign. DO IT! I cannot believe I have not been doing this all year. They throw t-shirts sometimes and everything! I caught one and I am not great at catching things. Make it a part of your schedule. You will not regret it!
