Bwog Staffers Katie De la Paz and Emma Trápaga try out the much-talked-about sushi from Milstein Bubble Tea and Sushi Spot. They give honest and incredibly professional reviews on the salmon avocado and spicy tuna rolls, bonding over their bwineage in the process.

For a while, we had been planning to live out our food critic dreams by writing a 2Girls1Snack article. Searching for a meal worthy of reviewing, we stumbled upon the Milstein Bubble Tea and Sushi Spot, which neither of us had been to before. We met at Milstein, lucky to see that the Sushi Spot didn’t have a long line like usual. After ordering our sushi, we checked out at the cashier while the sushi chefs made our rolls fresh. After ordering sushi, we paced around the first floor looking for empty seats for a little too long. Eventually, we resorted to pulling two sofa chairs away from another person’s table and eating in the corner. We wished we could try all of the sushi and boba options, but our lack of dining dollars and points (and being on a college budget) made our options scarce. So, here are our reviews of two favorite types of sushi from this new dining location.

Salmon avocado roll:

Katie

★★★★☆

Salmon avocado is my go-to, so I was excited to try Milstein’s take on it. The avocado was perfectly ripe and not too squishy, so I enjoyed that. I’m not a sushi connoisseur, but the salmon tasted normal enough to me! This lost a star because the warm rice was slightly off-putting to me. I heavily appreciate the freshness, but chilled sushi is objectively better. Overall, this salmon avocado hit the spot and I would get it again this semester… if I had enough dining dollars left to do so.

★★★☆☆:

I don’t typically go for salmon-avocado rolls, mostly because there seems to always be another option that interests me more. But, I was pleasantly surprised by this roll! It tasted good and I really enjoyed the freshly made quality of it. However, overall, it was a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor. I think that if the salmon had some more flavor, it would earn another star, but I was relying on the soy sauce to add some saltiness. I would try it again, but I don’t think it would be my first option!

Spicy tuna roll:

Katie

★★★☆☆:
This was a rare instance where I had tuna sushi, mostly because I believe tuna and salmon taste similar and I opt for salmon most of the time. The spice was a nice touch, it made it flavorful and intriguing. However, the ultimate deterrer of this roll was its texture. I wasn’t used to the overly mushy mixture of fish, mayo, and spice. I’m glad I had the experience, but I would most likely opt for a different type of sushi if I came back.

Emma

★★★★☆

Spicy tuna rolls never really let me down. I always order them and because of that, I feel that these were pretty decent. The tuna wasn’t actually that spicy, but it still had a really good flavor. There was also a little too much rice around the salmon, and while it tasted good it overtook a lot of the flavor and power. Overall, I would definitely order it again and thought that it was honestly a good sushi roll compared to other (more expensive) places I’ve been to.

Final Thoughts:

After much deliberation, we have decided that we would definitely come here again! Maybe once we have more points to spend. Overall, it was a really good experience. The cashier and sushi chefs were very nice, and the ordering process was fast. The sushi was good for a dining hall on a college campus. The price of a roll, about $8, is comparable to Cafe East’s.

As we were conversing while eating, we realized that we were successfully continuing our bwineage and honoring our big, Lucia. After she told us about her not-so-positive experience with her past bwig, we decided to do her justice and continue the legacy. Next time we come back, it will be a bwineage date with all three of us!
