In case you missed the Student Government Association meetings throughout February, here’s a quick look at everything they talked about at the external meetings!
SGA Highlights: February 24
- The Sophomore Major Declaration Ceremony was on March 4 in the James Room.
- Announcement of the FLI Student Resources Event, which is about finding a campus job and internship funding with SGA, Beyond Barnard and Access Barnard.
Announcements from McAC (MacIntosh Activities Council):
- Spirit Week and Greek Games are happening in April.
- McAC Town Hall on Tuesday, March 8, from 8 to 9 pm.
SGA Highlights: February 10
- There were brief announcements made about the First Year Course-Based Study Groups and the schedule for ticket releases about the Spring Formal.
- Barnard Bridges information is supposed to come out later this month.
- Baseball tickets have been released for seniors.
- The sophomore major declaration ceremony is happening on March 4.
- The search is underway for a SEE (Student Experience and Engagement) Director.
- In mid-February there was a campus role and internship funding panel featuring different student employers and Access Barnard, with the intention of increasing FLI student resources.
- The Governing Board at Barnard (GBB), in charge of student clubs and organizations, is currently training more positions and communicating with clubs to distribute funds.
- Clubs can fill out cosponorship forms.
- Clubs are so far well-funded and are encouraged to fill out more GBB funding.
- Finance Chair, Vice Finance Chair & Comms all started their GBB roles semester. They’re still being taught the ropes.
Announcements from McAC (MacIntosh Activities Council):
- Students can nominate a faculty member or TA for the Emily Gregory Awards, and it was clarified that the nominated professor or TA should be at Barnard.
- There was more conversation about the upcoming Spirit Week that will lead to Greek Games.
SGA Highlights: February 3
- There were announcements about Barnard Bridges, the Formal, Course Study-Groups, Lunar New Year, Baseball Tickets, the Sophomore Declaration Ceremony, and the search for a SEE Director.
Regarding Academic Freedom:
- At the time, the Freedom of Expression Committee is assessing the current situation on academic freedom to inform policy that would eventually be presented to the Board of Trustees.
- They would like to write a draft before the end of the semester.
