On December 2, Illustrator Ava Morouse attended an online panel titled “HIV & COVID-19: When Pandemics Collide.” Presented by the ICAP Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, the panel was a part of Mailman’s Centennial Distinguished Speakers Series and honored both Mailman’s centennial as well as World AIDS Day.

Staff Writer Ava Slocum’s Lit Hum professor recommended that her class attend Wednesday evening’s talk, “Classical Allusions in Contemporary African-American Poetry.” And it was so interesting! Dr. Chiyuma Elliott gave her presentation over Zoom, in a guest lecture coordinated by the Morningside Institute.

This past Tuesday, Staff Writer Ava Slocum finally got to go see one of the film screenings for the Columbia Maison Française’s series Mauvais Genres: French Cinema Takes On Gender. She attended the screening and Q&A for Ladies of the Wood (2021), directed by Claus Drexel, soon to have its theatrical release in France.

On Wednesday, Staff Writer Charlie Bonkowsky attended “Modern Sufis and the State: The Politics of Islam in South Asia and Beyond,” a book talk and conversation between several of the professors who contributed articles or edited the new volume.
