Columbia’s controversial Manhattanville campus is open for business! Bwog headed (a little farther) uptown to check out the newest Jerome Greene Science Center.

Columbia is finally moving into its new home in Manhattanville this week, with the opening of the Jerome Greene Science Center. The building is the first of about six to establish Columbia’s West Harlem presence, which will eventually be joined by the Business School. Jerome contains multiple research labs, including one focused on the relationship between the brain and mind. The center also houses a community wellness center and multiple educational programs, which will act to bridge the campus with the surrounding Manhattanville community. Also taking into account Columbia’s promise not to build any walls or fences around the campus, we can see the university’s attempt to reduce the effects of gentrification that are likely to ensue from the new campus’s development.
