Happening in the World: North Korean leader Kim Jung Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met at the Vostochny space center, where they are expected to tour the facilities and host arms negotiations. When speaking with reporters, they discussed collaborating on satellites for North Korea. Kim is expected to request aid and supplies in exchange for ammunition in the war against Ukraine. (BBC)

Happening in the US: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has requested an impeachment inquiry be opened to examine President Biden’s alleged engagement with foreign business. McCarthy claims that Biden willingly supported his son Hunter Biden’s business affairs in China and Ukraine, attempted to bribe a Ukrainian official, and gave his son special treatment during I.R.S. investigations. The impeachment inquiry has not reached an official house vote. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: Eric Ulrich, former Department of Buildings commissioner and city council member, is expected to turn himself in to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office on September 13. After it was reported that he was under investigation for illegal gambling, he resigned from his position in November of 2022. According to Ulrich’s lawyer, it is expected that four other individuals will also be facing charges. (Gothamist)

Happening in Our Community: Columbia Law School is hosting a Human Rights Open House today, September 13, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm in the CLS Case Lounge, 7th Floor. This event is in collaboration with the Human Rights Institute, Human Rights Clinic, and the Office of Public Interest/Public Service Law and Careers, as well as CLS student organizations.
