Happening in the World: Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, has sent over 3,000 troops to support Russia in Ukraine. Analysts who have spent decades tracking the military efforts of Pyongyang say that North Korea is likely doing this to receive assistance from Russia’s military in longer-term strategic assurances that could increase Kim’s ability to confront the United States and other countries. This advancement also comes after a meeting in June where both Putin and Kim signed a document pledging cooperation, meaning that if either country is put in a state of war by an armed invasion, the other must provide as much military assistance as possible. Happening in the US: In Phoenix, Arizona, a curbside mailbox was set on fire by a man claiming he “wanted to be arrested.” That being said, the burning of the mailbox resulted in the damaging of several absentee ballots, especially critical due to Arizona’s position as a swing state and recent history of election-related violence. Dieter Klofkorn, the suspect, clarified he did not intend to affect the election. He was eventually arrested and charged with one count of arson. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: The “Back to the Future” musical is set to end its Broadway run in January after over a year at the Winter Garden Theater. According to the New York Times, the show had decent profits and attendance but was ultimately too expensive to sustain in New York. After closing, the musical will relocate to Germany and continue in London and on its North American tour. The show is the seventh Broadway musical to announce a closing date since May. (NYT)
