Brooks residents live in the oldest building, have a mouse problem, and have no AC. Please, Sulz residents, why must you have it all?
Okay, quad girlies, we need to talk.
At the beginning of the semester, some people learned that Brooks, despite being the worst Quad dorm, has the best showers. I know so because every time I mentioned living in Brooks, I would receive condolences immediately followed by, “At least you have the good showers!” This brought me some solace. Maybe they were right; I might be at risk of heatstroke overnight, but at least I could always take a nice shower.
“Always” didn’t last forever, though. See, before, I could just walk right outside my door and take a consistently good shower whenever I wanted. Yes, some Hewitt, Reid, and even Sulz residents would walk all the way over to Brooks to borrow our showers, but it didn’t really affect me. Our showers were slightly less clean due to the over-use, but still nice. And, of course, I have empathy. I wouldn’t want to use the other showers either, so yeah, I figured I was okay with sharing.
That was until this semester. Maybe it was the sight of robe-wearing girls walking all the way to Brooks, maybe people started reading Bwog articles about it, or maybe the other water heaters don’t work anymore. Whatever it is, though, word got around, and I’ve had enough. This week (at 12:30 AM), I walked into the Brooks bathroom to see a line of two girls waiting their turn for the next shower. And no, they were not Brooks residents. We only have two showers, two sinks, and two stalls; it’s not like Hewitt’s insane number of sinks. There is simply not enough room for the amount of people coming to use our showers. Plus, they’ve become much so much dirtier, there is hair everywhere and an abnormal amount of random objects being left on the shelf, counter, and seat.
Additionally, some Brooks showers are gender-neutral, which is obviously fine, but you can imagine what we have to endure. If you have a boyfriend, that’s so great, and I know he needs to use the bathroom, but I saw a man shaving at the sink yesterday. Also, don’t take a shower with your boyfriend; I am begging; I genuinely cannot do this anymore.
Like I said, I perfectly understand that we all need hot water and nice water pressure, but this is getting out of hand. I am so close to petitioning for a keycard system, where non-Brooks residents would need a sign-in to use the bathroom. I’m so happy to share, but at this rate, I’m becoming a hater and fast.
Non-Brooks residents, can we please calm down a bit? You have so much going for you. You have bigger rooms, there isn’t mold in your closet, and some of you even have AC. I’m so okay if you want to use our showers at 3 pm or 2 am, but the lines are too much. Or maybe you can just let actual Brooks residents go ahead of you in the line you’ve made. I don’t care, but this needs to be solved. Let us have this one thing, please.
