Classes are looming nearer. Today, you’re going to have to actually run some errands/buy textbooks/buy food, not just put it off. Luckily, you still have a few days of waking up with us. Savor it, this won’t last for much longer. Today’s Highlights: Meet And Greet, 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Find out which clubs […]
Bwog will again honor our heritage/amorous affair with our mother magazine, The Blue and White (on racks and “dormitories” near you NOW), by posting features from the upcoming issue. Such treats include a conversation with Ta-Nehisi Coates; a breakdown of the Board of Trustees; and a discussion of why college radio still matters. Below, staff writer Alexander Pines, CC […]
No matter what your experience has been with CCE, we’re sure that at least once in your illustrious career here, you’ve complained about it. Shudipto Rahman, SEAS’13, found Columbia’s Center for Career Education much less than helpful. When they sent him a follow-up email this summer, asking to fill out a Graduating Student Survey, Shu […]
Although maybe every so often you forget that. In the last few weeks, many of our esteemed professors have published articles, perhaps to squeeze ’em in before the school year starts. Read on and tell us what we missed in the comments. Cris Beam, Creative Writing: Just Holding On Through The Curves (NYTimes) I didn’t give birth […]
It’s everyone else’s move-in day, so NSOP is dangling carrots to lure first-years off campus. Just stay out of our blue bins’ way! Please continue to send in overseens and overheards to tips@bwog.com or use our anonymous tip form. Today’s Highlights: Neighborhood Tours: East Village, Downtown/Financial District, Brooklyn Bridge, Park Slope, meet at 11 am in […]
Tonight, many of you will discover another difference between Columbia and all the rural/”college town” schools your friends are currently at: while they will make it through all four years being entertained by frat parties and “college bars,” if you want to experience all the nightlife New York has to offer, you will need to […]
This morning, we received a lovely tip detailing the continuing frustrations of vertical movement within John Jay Hall. This past January, we saw an uprising of sorts as the JJ elevators were under endless repair. Apparently some freshmen’s advice to not use the John Jay “lifts” and just take the stairs was moot as, in […]
Bwog almost forgot in the excitement of NSOP that Columbia supports three other years’ worth of students, but with Saturday the 31st looming, we can’t ignore the empty suitcase sitting on our bedroom floor. Sorry, first-years — it’s been real, but starting tomorrow you’re going to have to share campus with 2016, 2015, and 2014. […]
Columbia is a weird place full of unusual terms (not to mention the people). To help you out, we’ve written out a guide to the most-used abbreviations at this fine school. The Schools CC – Columbia College, the largest and oldest undergrad school at Columbia. SEAS – School of Engineering and Applied Science. Note the absence of […]
Head over to the Wien lounge right now till 3 pm for the Green sale, where leftover items (refrigerators, fans, lamps, and so on) are sold on the mega cheap. Go play I Spy with your friends, it’s less frustrating than this round, and the payoff is better. If you want another metaphor, the Green folks […]
You’re almost there, NSOP-ers — real school is almost in session. Welcome to your first Friday. Not the First Friday, though. Please continue to send in overseens and overheards to tips@bwog.com or use our anonymous tip form. Today’s Highlights: Class Registration Help Session (CU), 9 am-7 pm, Satow Room on the 5th floor of Lerner. Go […]
In honor of the first Thursday, Bwog is reposting our ideal icebreaker from last year: Meta Have I Ever. Tread carefully, this one takes some thinking and covert action. Enjoy Victoria Gardens, and please celebrate responsibly! Bwog sleeps soundly knowing that somewhere a group of strangers is getting to know each other via a revealing […]
