On September 12th, Staff Writer Emily Yi and Guest Writers Sylvia Chen and Spencer Davis attended a talk by The Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute. The event, featuring Dr. Zenna Tavares and Dr. Kim Stachenfeld, centered on the question of whether AI can learn like humans. 

On Wednesday, Columbia attended an NYU talk hosted by Dr. Anne Johnson for her lecture, “Mexico in Orbit: Modernity, Nationality and Satellite Fetishism.”

Last Friday, the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory hosted Dr. Linda Elkins-Tanton for its yearly W.S. Jardetzky Lecture, titled “Volcanoes And The Great Dying: The End-Permian Extinction And Its Parallels With Today.”

On Tuesday, the Heyman Center hosted guest lecturer Dr. Mijin Cha to discuss the importance of power, organization, and framing in the battle for worldwide decarbonization.

This past Friday, the Columbia Space Initiative hosted a once-in-a-lifetime video call with Astronaut Woody Hoburg live from the International Space Station to discuss the future of space exploration and life in outer space.

On Thursday, April 21, Zuckerman Institute presented “Embracing Uncertainty: The Power of Curiosity and Exploration in Learning,” the fourth and final lecture of this year’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation Brain Insight Lecture Series.
