Our own class of 2015, apparently overeager to get their hands on the Masterpieces of Western Civilization, has thronged Bank Street Bookstore! We hope parents were not rude. Enjoy NSOP, children, and order books later! Amazon Student will get you your books cheap and lickety-split, or you can get them neatly packaged from the hip […]
Rise and shine freshpeople! Every day we’ll be checking in with you as you greet your first Columbia mornings. To aid us in this quest, we’ve dug up some of our most valuable archival treasure, Senior Wisdom, from throughout the ages. Have something to contribute? Try us (including you ’15ers!) at tips@bwog.com. Cynthia Jennings, Director […]
For some, the first night of college can get a little too cray. Don’t hesitate to call CAVA, Columbia’s trusty EMS service, if your new friend falls ill. There’s a Good Samaritan policy, so no one will get in trouble. Your health is first priority. 212-854-5555. Program it in your phone. Better yet, memorize the […]
The triumphant shouts of eager RA’s echoed around the quad. The sun shined blissfully and the skies were clear. Today was move-in day made in heaven. Irene left hundreds of cancelled flights, blocked roads, and disrupted trips in her wake, so only some freshpeople made it to move-in. The NSOP committee expects the stragglers arrive […]
The powers that be have bulldozed the thicket between Hamilton and John Jay and replaced it with this sandy, serene seating area. You can even see the rake marks in the gravel—like an oversized Zen Garden. But the manicured landscape has left us craving less cultivated wildlife. Bwog proposes a guerilla gardening group. Side note: […]
Bwog spent the morning roaming the green hills of campus, greeting freshpeople and snacking (there are mountains of free food here. If you are near campus, we recommend dropping by). Everything is surprisingly calm. We expected a surge of freshlings because of all the scheduling mishaps, but people seem to be arriving in an orderly […]
Behold your dorm room. It’s—It’s—It’s—nice?? Don’t be too disappointed. You’ll stain it too and make it your own. (Fun fact: JJ11 has a tainted legacy. One past resident drunkenly shat on the floor.) Anywho, college may be your first time living on your own, so you probably have some questions. We’re here to help. In […]
You’re ashamed to admit you care, but it’s okay, we kind of do too. US News and World Report just released their annual college rankings, and Columbia holds strong at number 4 behind HYP. Overheard reaction from RAs: “One, two, three, DIDN’T DROP!!!!” Uhhh okay this is really embarrassing. Those were, as many commenters have […]
Welcome, new friends. Mean Irene has passed, and a beautiful sunny day embraces the youngins. We Bwoggers will be scattered around campus watching your every move— in the least creepy way possible. NSOP makes more glorious people-watching, indeed, so send us your tales of memory foam pillows catching on fire and taxidermy rodents. Also, wear […]
Dean Moody-Adams’ resignation was surprising and controversial. We’ve done our best to provide context and historical background over the past few days, but all the information can be overwhelming. We’ve pared Moodygate down to the bare essentials, in a neat question and answer format to help you digest it all. But be warned! It doesn’t […]
The moment of move-in day (supposed to to start today) after your parents leave and before Orientation really begins is pretty terrifying. The Klimt posters securely tacked to your John Jay wall are not substitutes for human-person friends, and you don’t have any of those yet. One Bwogger remembered calling an older friend at this […]
Update, 6:11 pm: McShane sent out an email advising students “to continue to use caution and monitor information sources.” And good building-integrity news: “Facilities has checked all buildings on the Morningside campus and has determined that there are no significant problems.” Most importantly, CC and SEAS ’15 move-in is on for tomorrow! Full email after […]
