February is Black History Month! Celebrate with the many amazing events happening on campus this week.

Managing Editor Elijah Knodell attended a screening of Jasmine Bissete’s (CC ’19) short film Anges hosted by Columbia’s Maison Française. Bissete was joined in conversation by Professor Roxanne Varzi of UC Irvine.

On Wednesday, February 1, the Columbia University Law Review hosted Giselle Valdez, a Columbia College alum and current Columbia Law student to present about her organization, The Legal Gist, which aims to demystify the law school application process. Staff Writers Ella Ferguson and Maya Reisner were in attendance.

On Tuesday, January 24, the student group Columbia Policy Institute (CPI) discussed ChatGPT and its ramifications in the university setting for their first meeting of the new semester!

Last week, staff writers Meeral Tashfeen and Claire De La Roche trekked through the depths of EC for a speaker panel to celebrate Isabel Huacuja Alonso’s recent work, Radio for the Millions: Hindu-Urdu Broadcasting Across Borders.

On Friday, January 27 Barnard Zine club alum and graphic designer Suze Myers led a workshop on applying key facets of graphic design to zine creation.

This week’s events include movie nights, jazz performances, a Columbia Undergraduate Law Review panel, and the world premiere of Something about the Weather!

A panel of Moscow correspondents discussed their experiences and opinions on covering Russia under media oppression and Soviet rule, and how these policies affect Russia’s present-day situation.

On Wednesday, December 14th, the Reproductive Justice Collective held a rally in Riverside Park in support of providing students with access to medicated abortions across New York college campuses.

On Monday, December 12, student organizer Izzy Bohn (GS ’23) and Morningside Heights community member Dan McSweeney hosted a teach-in and poster-making session to educate students about tenant rights and Columbia’s forced displacement of local residents.
