In preparation for Under1Roof, which we are told is an NSOP event, we’ve prepared a list of must-haves, purely based on hearsay. Nobody within three degrees of the Bwog staff has ever actually attended, but some of us are still getting “stern e-mails” about scheduling a make-up session years later, and thought we might as […]

Send us a photo of your view or room before you move out, along with a brief description of where you were to tips@bwog.com. The following submission comes from […]
In light of the tragic death of Martha Corey-Ochoa, the Student Wellness Project will be using the John Jay Lounge as the setting of an open discussion from 5:00-7:30 pm tonight for all who would like to come share their thoughts, voice their concerns, and listen to their fellow students. There will be upperclassmen leading […]
Martha Corey-Ochoa, a freshman in the College, passed away last night. Dean Shollenberger informed students of her death in an email, after notifying her family. Her death is being treated as an apparent suicide. Dean Shollenberger writes, “Martha was passionate about mathematics and literature, and recognized as a very talented writer.” Visiting hours will be from 2 […]
Update, 5:20 am: Dean Shollenberger has sent an email to all students confirming that Martha Corey-Ochoa, CC ’16, passed away last night. Our thoughts are with her friends and family. Dear Sweet ’16ers, We’re glad to see you’re getting settled in, and we hope you don’t mind the 400 fliers we’ve duct-taped to your doors. Now is the part of NSOP where shit starts to get real, which means we’d like some insider intel from your end. We’ll do our part, of course, and continue to post useful […]
Tipsters report that a manhole on 114th and Broadway is spewing flames. Watch your toes! Update: A Bwogger on the scene tells us the police are urging people to clear the area, warning that “it might explode.”

Every year news students arrive to campus a week early with spirits full of hope and minds primed for molding. Unfortunately, the earnest innocence doesn’t last long, as NSOP presents the first social and narcotic barriers to entry for the academic market, and that’s where we come in. Bwog loves observing the full spectrum of […]
NSOP 2012 is in full swing, and the sweet ’16ers are everywhere—but there’s no need to get out of bed to gawk! We’ve captured all of the excitement of move-in day, so far, below. Send any photos, Overheards, or general information to tips@bwog.com, and we’ll add it to the post!
Welcome to campus, sweet ’16ers! Soon you’ll be thrust into a world where it seems like everyone speaks in TLA’s. Have no fear though—Bwog’s always posted this little guide to Columbia acronyms and initialisms, and we’ve updated the list just for you. The shrewd freshperson will write these on flashcards and memorize them all before […]
It’s official—the sweet ’16ers are here! The international/West-Coast ones, at least… In honor of their arrival, campus is wearing its finest. John Jay got new, temporarily stain-free carpets… until some freshperson vomits on it during NSOP oh wait that’s Carman spills some Massaman sauce from their Wondee delivery whilst making a heated point in a […]
